The Blindspace system conceals the mechanical components of a curtain track or roller blind installation — the track profile, roller tube, motor, brackets and any wiring — within a bespoke cassette or void built into the ceiling structure. The cassette is constructed by the main contractor’s carpenter to the dimensions we confirm during the design stage, with the curtain fabric or blind emerging through a slot in the ceiling surface that is finished with the Blindspace trim profile. From below, the ceiling reads as a single uninterrupted horizontal plane. The curtain appears to float from the ceiling rather than hanging from a visible track. No bracket, no fascia, no headrail and no hardware of any kind interrupts the ceiling line above the window. This concealment detail is achievable with a wide range of curtain track and blind systems. For motorised curtain tracks, we most commonly specify the Silent Gliss SG 5600 heavy-duty motorised track or the Glydea Ultra 60 within Blindspace cassettes. For motorised roller blinds, the Silent Gliss SG 4960 electric roller blind is the most frequently installed system. For projects on the Lutron QS platform, the Lutron Sivoia QS Roller 64 and Roller 100 both work within Blindspace cassettes with the significant additional advantage that the Lutron QS cable carries both power and data in a single run — simplifying the M&E first fix considerably. All of these systems can be housed within a single Blindspace cassette at the same window position, allowing a roller blind and a curtain track to operate independently from behind a single flush ceiling detail.

Early appointment is the single most important factor in a successful Blindspace installation. The cassette position, void depth, slot width and all wiring routes must be confirmed and communicated to the main contractor before ceiling boarding begins — retrofitting a Blindspace installation into a completed ceiling requires cutting into finished surfaces, disrupts adjacent finishes and significantly increases cost and programme. We attend site at the design stage for every Blindspace project, confirm all dimensions in writing for the main contractor, and return for installation once the ceiling is complete and decorated.

As an authorised Silent Gliss and Lutron dealer with our own in-house project management, we co-ordinate the full Blindspace installation from initial design consultation through to curtain and blind dressing at handover — a single point of responsibility for the most demanding ceiling detail in a luxury interior. System: Blindspace bespoke ceiling concealment cassette for curtain track and roller blind installation.

Cassette construction: bespoke timber or MDF framing built by main contractor’s carpenter to confirmed dimensions — void depth, slot width, cassette length and cable entry positions all confirmed in writing by our team before ceiling boarding. Slot finish: Blindspace aluminium trim profile — paintable to match ceiling finish; installed at ceiling slot opening to provide clean, durable reveal edge. Compatible curtain track systems: Silent Gliss SG 5600 motorised curtain track; Somfy Glydea Ultra 60 motorised curtain track; Silent Gliss SG 3900 and other manual track systems within void depth specification. Compatible roller blind systems: Silent Gliss SG 4960 24V DC electric roller blind; Silent Gliss SG 4970 heavy-duty electric roller blind; Lutron Sivoia QS Roller 64; Lutron Sivoia QS Roller 100. Dual system option: curtain track and roller blind barrel within same cassette — both systems confirmed at design stage. Wiring: all M&E first fix cable routes confirmed during design stage site visit and communicated to M&E contractor before ceiling boarding. Lutron QS wiring advantage: single QS cable per blind carries power and data — no separate power feed; simplifies M&E first fix for Lutron projects. Shallow void note: where ceiling void depth is below standard, reduced-profile tube support available — confirm at design stage survey. Installation sequence: cassette construction by main contractor → M&E first fix → ceiling boarding and decoration → Blindspace track and blind installation → curtain and blind dressing. Early appointment: design stage attendance required — cannot be retrofitted to completed ceiling without cutting. Supply and installation available across Poole, Bournemouth, Canford Cliffs, Sandbanks, Christchurch, Salisbury and the wider Dorset, Hampshire and South Coast area. Blindspace installation detail drawings, void depth schedules, NBS specification text and product data sheets available on request from our specification team.

 FAQ

What is Blindspace ceiling concealment?

Blindspace is a ceiling concealment system that hides curtain tracks, motorised roller blind barrels and electric blind systems within bespoke cassettes built into the ceiling void. When the curtain or blind is open, the ceiling reads as completely flat — no track, no bracket, no headrail and no hardware of any kind is visible from the room. When the curtain is drawn, it appears to emerge directly from the ceiling plane rather than hanging from a visible track. The system requires a cassette to be built into the ceiling structure by the main contractor’s carpenter to confirmed dimensions, with the blind or curtain fabric emerging through a slot finished with the Blindspace trim profile. We design, co-ordinate and install Blindspace systems across Poole, Dorset and the South Coast as an authorised Silent Gliss and Lutron dealer.

Which curtain tracks and roller blinds are compatible with Blindspace?

The Blindspace system is compatible with a wide range of Silent Gliss and Lutron curtain track and roller blind systems, subject to the ceiling void being sufficient to accommodate the track or blind profile. For motorised curtain tracks, we most commonly specify the Silent Gliss SG 5600 and the Somfy Glydea Ultra 60 within Blindspace cassettes. For electric roller blinds, the Silent Gliss SG 4960 and SG 4970 are the most frequently installed systems. On Lutron QS projects, the Lutron Sivoia QS Roller 64 and Roller 100 both install within Blindspace cassettes — with the advantage that the single Lutron QS cable carries both power and data, eliminating the need for a separate power feed and simplifying the M&E first fix. We advise on the most appropriate system for the specific ceiling void depth, window width and control platform at the design stage.

Why is early appointment so important for a Blindspace installation?

The Blindspace cassette must be built into the ceiling structure before the ceiling is boarded — the framing, the void depth, the slot position, the trim profile fixing and all wiring routes need to be incorporated during the build or fit-out, not added afterwards. Retrofitting a Blindspace installation into a completed ceiling requires cutting into finished plasterboard or plaster, disrupts adjacent ceiling finishes, risks damage to services within the void and significantly increases both cost and programme. We attend site at the design stage — before ceiling boarding begins — to confirm all dimensions in writing, provide a co-ordination document for the main contractor, and flag any windows where the ceiling void is shallower than standard so the cassette design can be adjusted before the ceiling closes. Every Blindspace project we undertake begins with a design stage site visit, not a post-completion survey.

Can Blindspace be retrofitted into an existing ceiling?

In most cases, a true Blindspace installation — where the cassette is built into the ceiling structure with the track or blind fully concealed within the void — cannot be achieved in a completed ceiling without cutting into it. Cutting into a finished ceiling to create a Blindspace slot is technically possible but disrupts adjacent plaster and paint finishes, risks services within the void and produces a less clean result than a purpose-built cassette incorporated during the build. For refurbishment projects where the ceiling cannot be opened, the Silent Gliss SG 4980 cassette roller blind or the Lutron Palladiom cassette blind are the appropriate alternatives — both use self-contained cassette housings that fix directly to the wall face or ceiling surface without requiring ceiling construction. We advise on the most appropriate concealment approach for the specific project conditions during a free consultation.
