The Somfy Glydea motorised curtain track is the electric track most commonly specified on projects where a Somfy or TaHoma-based smart home system is already in place — or where the architect or AV integrator has specified Somfy as the motor platform for the wider shading scheme. Unlike the Silent Gliss electric range, which uses the Silent Gliss proprietary motor protocol, the Glydea uses the Somfy RTS and io-homecontrol radio protocols — making it natively compatible with the Somfy TaHoma smart home gateway, Somfy Situo remote handsets and the full range of Somfy-compatible smart home systems without any bridging equipment.

The Glydea Ultra 60 — the heavy-duty variant most commonly specified on luxury residential projects — carries curtain loads of up to 60 kilograms per track and operates via a brushless DC motor with a smooth progressive soft start and stop. This prevents fabric oscillation on opening and closing and eliminates the mechanical noise associated with abrupt motor stops — the same quality characteristic that distinguishes a high-specification motorised curtain track from a domestic-grade alternative. The Glydea profile is also wave-compatible, accepting wave cord gliders at 80mm spacing for wave-heading curtains across the full track length.

One of the defining practical advantages of the Glydea on this area’s residential projects is its bendability. The aluminium profile can be bent in-house to the measured radius of any bay window, curved glazed bay or angled window opening — a process we carry out at our premises using the Somfy bending tool, with each bent track test-fitted against a replica of the measured geometry before delivery to site. This off-site bending and verification process ensures every bent Glydea track arrives ready to hang without on-site adjustment.

As an authorised Somfy and Glydea installation specialist, we supply, specify and install the Glydea across Poole, Canford Cliffs, Sandbanks, Bournemouth and the wider Dorset and South Coast area. We produce all bespoke wave curtains and soft furnishings from our own workroom for a complete Glydea scheme from motor to hem. Contact our team for a free site survey and specification advice.

What is the Somfy Glydea electric curtain track?

The Somfy Glydea is a heavy-duty motorised curtain track from the Somfy range, designed for luxury residential and commercial installations where smart home integration, heavy curtain weights and near-silent operation are all required. The Glydea Ultra 60 — the heavy-duty variant most commonly specified — carries curtain loads of up to 60 kilograms per track via a brushless DC motor with progressive soft start and stop. It is wave-compatible, bendable to bay window radii and integrates natively with the Somfy TaHoma smart home platform for app, remote, keypad and voice control. We supply and install the Glydea across Poole, Canford Cliffs, Sandbanks, Bournemouth and the wider Dorset and South Coast area

What is the difference between the Somfy Glydea and the Silent Gliss SG 5600?

Both are heavy-duty motorised curtain tracks at similar load capacities — the Glydea Ultra 60 is rated to 60kg per track and the Silent Gliss SG 5600 to 65kg. The primary difference is the motor protocol and smart home ecosystem. The Glydea uses Somfy’s io-homecontrol and RTS radio protocols and integrates natively with the Somfy TaHoma platform and the full Somfy ecosystem. The SG 5600 uses the Silent Gliss proprietary motor system and integrates via the Silent Gliss Move app. For projects where a Somfy TaHoma gateway or Somfy-based shading system is already specified, the Glydea is the natural track choice. For projects on the Silent Gliss ecosystem or where Lutron native integration is required, the SG 5600 is the more appropriate specification. We supply and install both systems and advise on the correct track for your specific control platform at the survey stage.

Can the Somfy Glydea be integrated with Lutron?

Yes, via an RF Bond protocol translation device. The Somfy RTS radio protocol used by the Glydea is compatible with Lutron RadioRA systems when an RF Bond device is used to bridge the two protocols. The RF Bond learns the RTS address of each Glydea motor and translates Lutron shade commands into the correct Somfy RTS radio signal, making the Glydea blinds appear as native Lutron shades within the Lutron interface for scene programming, keypad control and app control. We have delivered Glydea and Lutron RF Bond integration on projects across Dorset — including the Mudeford development documented in our case studies — and we work directly with Lutron-certified AV integrators to confirm RF Bond placement and commissioning sequence.

What smart home systems is the Somfy Glydea compatible with?

The Glydea integrates natively with the Somfy TaHoma smart home gateway, providing control via the TaHoma app, Amazon Alexa, Google Home and Apple HomeKit. Somfy Situo remote handsets and wall switches are available for local control without a hub. For KNX, Crestron and Control4 integration, Somfy provides dedicated drivers and interfaces — we advise on the appropriate solution for your specific control platform at the specification stage. For Lutron integration, the Somfy RTS radio protocol is compatible with Lutron RadioRA via an RF Bond bridge device, as documented in our Mudeford and Hamworthy project case studies.

Do you install the Somfy Glydea in Poole, Canford Cliffs and across Dorset?

Yes.
