Its construction consists of soft fabric vanes suspended horizontally between two layers of translucent sheer backing fabric. When the vanes are open, the sheer layers filter and diffuse natural light into the room whilst the vanes hang softly in front of the glazing — providing a quality of light and a visual appearance very similar to a sheer curtain, without any fabric pooling on the floor, without any track hardware above, and without the operational limitations of a conventional curtain. When the vanes are closed, they rotate to align with the backing fabric, providing effective privacy and significantly increased light reduction.
This vane rotation is the defining functional advantage of the Pirouette over a sheer curtain. A sheer curtain provides privacy only when additional curtains or a blind are drawn over it. The Pirouette provides privacy independently — by rotating the vanes closed — without requiring a second layer of window treatment to achieve it.
