Sloped glazing, skylights and roof lights present a blind specification challenge that standard roller blinds, roman blinds and curtain tracks cannot address. A conventional blind relies on gravity to hold the fabric in position and to return it to its lowered state — on inclined glass, gravity acts against the system rather than with it, causing the fabric to slide to the lower end of the opening, lose tension against the glass and become impossible to operate reliably. The Silent Gliss 2195 was designed specifically to solve this problem.

The SG 2195 uses a motorised drive system with tensioned side guide channels that hold the fabric under controlled tension against the slope of the glazing at all times. The motor drives the fabric up and down the slope against this tension, maintaining consistent contact with the glass surface and preventing the fabric gathering, sliding or losing position at any point during operation. The system operates correctly on any incline — from a shallow pitch of 15 degrees through to fully horizontal overhead glazing — making it suitable for pitched skylights, flat rooflights, atrium glazing, stairwell lights and any sloped architectural glazing feature where a blind is required.

Remote handset, wall switch and smart home integration options are available for control without manual access to the glazing — which is often at height or otherwise inaccessible. As an authorised Silent Gliss dealer, we supply and install the SG 2195 across Poole, Dorset and the South Coast, including on-site glazing angle measurement, fabric selection, motor wiring co-ordination and full installation and commissioning.

System: Silent Gliss SG 2195 electrically operated skylight and sloped glazing blind.

Drive: motorised with tensioned side guide channels — fabric maintained in contact with glazing surface at all incline angles. Incline range: 15 degrees to fully horizontal overhead glazing. Fabric types: blackout; dim-out; solar screen — openness factor to specification. Made to measure: yes — glazing angle, width and drop confirmed during on-site survey before ordering. Control: remote handset; wall switch; smart home and BMS integration — confirm compatible control interface at specification stage. Automated scheduling: yes — time-based and sensor-triggered programmes available. Wiring: mains power to motor position — route and termination confirmed during pre-installation survey. Suitable applications: pitched skylights; flat rooflights; atrium glazing; stairwell roof lights; sloped architectural glazing features. Installation note: glazing angle, frame construction and accessible fixing positions must be confirmed on site before ordering — do not specify from drawings alone. Manual alternative: Silent Gliss Shy manual skylight track system. NBS specification text, product data sheets and BIM objects available on request from our specification team.

FAQ

What is the Silent Gliss 2195 skylight blind?

The Silent Gliss 2195 is an electrically operated blind system designed specifically for skylights, roof lights, sloped glazing and atria. It uses a motorised drive with tensioned side guide channels to hold the fabric against the slope of the glass at all times — preventing the fabric sliding, gathering or losing tension that occurs when a conventional roller blind is installed on inclined glazing. The SG 2195 operates on any incline from a shallow 15-degree pitch to fully horizontal overhead glazing. It is available in blackout, dim-out and solar screen fabrics and is controllable by remote handset, wall switch and smart home integration. We supply and install the Silent Gliss 2195 across Poole, Dorset and the South Coast as an authorised Silent Gliss dealer.

Why can’t a standard roller blind be used on a skylight or sloped glazing?

A standard roller blind relies on gravity to hold the fabric in its lowered position and to create the tension that allows it to raise and lower correctly. On vertical glazing this works as intended — gravity pulls the fabric downward, keeping it taut and in position. On inclined or sloped glazing, gravity acts along the slope rather than perpendicular to the glass surface, causing the fabric to slide to the lower end of the opening and lose contact with the glazing. The blind then cannot be operated reliably — it either falls under its own weight when lowered or requires manual intervention to keep it in position. The SG 2195’s tensioned side guide system counteracts this by holding the fabric under controlled tension against the glazing surface regardless of the incline angle, allowing correct motorised operation at any pitch.

What incline angles is the Silent Gliss 2195 suitable for?

The SG 2195 is suitable for any incline from approximately 15 degrees from horizontal up to and including fully horizontal overhead glazing. This range covers the majority of residential skylight and roof light applications — from shallow-pitch lantern lights and walk-on glazing at low angles through to steep-pitch skylights, stairwell roof lights and flat overhead atrium glazing at or close to 90 degrees from vertical. We confirm the specific incline angle of the glazing during the site survey and advise on the appropriate SG 2195 configuration for the measured pitch and glazing frame construction.

Can the Silent Gliss 2195 be integrated with a smart home system?

Yes. The SG 2195 is compatible with smart home and BMS systems for remote operation, scene control and automated scheduling. Remote operation is particularly important on skylight and roof light installations where the glazing is at height or otherwise inaccessible for manual control. Sensor-triggered automation — such as closing the blind automatically when a light sensor detects direct sunlight — is also available, providing passive solar management without any manual input from the occupant. We confirm the appropriate control interface and motor variant for the specific smart home or BMS platform at the specification stage and work directly with AV integrators to co-ordinate wiring and commissioning.

Do you install the Silent Gliss 2195 skylight blind in Poole and across Dorset?

Yes. We are an authorised Silent Gliss dealer supplying and installing the full Silent Gliss skylight and sloped glazing blind range — including the SG 2195 — across Poole, Canford Cliffs, Sandbanks, Bournemouth, Christchurch, Salisbury and the wider Dorset, Hampshire and South Coast area. Every SG 2195 installation begins with a full on-site survey to confirm the glazing incline angle, frame construction, accessible fixing positions and wiring routes before ordering.
