The Silent Gliss 8600 tensioned roller blind brings roller blind fabric performance — including full blackout — to skylight and sloped glazing applications where a conventional roller blind mechanism cannot function reliably on inclined glass. The fundamental problem with standard roller blinds on skylights is that the fabric relies on gravity to hang in tension below the roller tube, which works on vertical windows but fails on inclined glass where gravity acts along the slope rather than perpendicular to the glazing. The SG 8600 tension system replaces gravity with mechanical cable tension along both side edges of the fabric, holding the roller fabric flat against the glazing surface under controlled tension at all times regardless of the incline angle.

The SG 8600 tension roller is motorised for remote operation without manual access — essential on skylights at height or in inaccessible positions. It is controlled via remote handset, wall switch and smart home or BMS integration, with automated scheduling available for solar management and privacy control without occupant input. As an authorised Silent Gliss dealer, we supply and install the SG 8600 tension roller blind across Poole, Dorset and the South Coast, including on-site glazing measurement, fabric selection, cable tensioning specification, wiring co-ordination and full installation and commissioning.

System: Silent Gliss SG 8600 electrically operated tensioned roller blind for sloped and skylight glazing.

Tensioning mechanism: stainless steel cable side guides running full length of glazing — roller fabric held flat against glazing surface under constant cable tension at all incline angles. Incline range: approximately 15 degrees from horizontal to fully horizontal overhead glazing. Motor: tubular motor — progressive start and stop, remote operation. Fabric types: blackout — complete light exclusion; dim-out — light reduction and privacy; solar screen — openness factor to specification. Made to measure: yes — glazing width, drop and incline angle confirmed during on-site survey before ordering. Cable tension: set on site during installation and adjusted to glazing operating temperature — confirm with our installation team. Control: remote handset; wall switch; smart home and BMS integration — confirm compatible control interface at specification stage. Wiring: mains power to motor position — route confirmed during pre-installation survey. Comparable systems: SG 8600 pleated (light diffusion); SG 8600 honeycomb (thermal insulation); SG 2195 (channel-guided roller for lower-performance applications). Supply and installation available across Poole, Bournemouth, Canford Cliffs, Sandbanks, Christchurch, Salisbury and the wider Dorset, Hampshire and South Coast area. NBS specification text, product data sheets and BIM objects available on request from our specification team.

FAQ

What is the Silent Gliss 8600 tensioned roller blind?

The Silent Gliss 8600 tensioned roller blind is an electrically operated skylight blind that uses stainless steel cable side guides to hold a flat roller blind fabric against the surface of inclined glazing at any pitch from approximately 15 degrees to fully horizontal. Unlike a standard roller blind — which relies on gravity to maintain fabric tension and cannot operate reliably on inclined glass — the SG 8600 tension system uses mechanical cable tension along both side edges to keep the fabric flat and correctly positioned against the glazing at all times. It is the only configuration in the Silent Gliss skylight blind range that delivers genuine blackout performance on inclined glazing. We supply and install the SG 8600 tension roller blind across Poole, Dorset and the South Coast as an authorised Silent Gliss dealer.

How does the cable tension system work on inclined glazing?

The SG 8600 tension system uses stainless steel cables that run in channels along both side edges of the glazing from the roller tube at the top to the bottom bar at the foot of the blind. The roller blind fabric is threaded onto these cables along its side edges, which means that as the motor raises or lowers the fabric, the cables guide the edges and maintain the fabric under controlled lateral tension throughout the full travel. This lateral tension counteracts the gravitational force that would otherwise cause the fabric to slide to the lower end of the glazing or lose contact with the glass surface on the upslope side. The cable tension is set during installation and adjusted to suit the glazing operating temperature — we carry out this adjustment as part of the standard commissioning process.

Do you install the SG 8600 tension roller skylight blind in Poole and across Dorset?

Yes. We are an authorised Silent Gliss dealer supplying and installing the full Silent Gliss skylight and sloped glazing blind range — including the SG 8600 tension roller blind — across Poole, Canford Cliffs, Sandbanks, Bournemouth, Christchurch, Salisbury and the wider Dorset, Hampshire and South Coast area. Every installation begins with a full on-site survey to confirm the glazing incline angle, dimensions, frame fixing positions, cable tensioning requirements and wiring routes before ordering. Contact our team to discuss your project and we will advise on the most appropriate skylight blind configuration for your specific glazing and performance requirements.
